JEDI ORDER A complex organization

Originally constructed over the foundations of an ancient Sith shrine on Coruscant, the Jedi Temple was first the headquarters of the Jedi Order and then, with the ryse of the Empire, became the imperial palace. It was the seat of the Jedi Archives, the largest source of information in the galaxy, and the seat of Jedi High Council, where Jedi Masters discussed and debated important decisions. It was here that Padawan learners studied and trained to become Jedi Knights.
The Jedi High Council was the governing body of the Jedi Order. It was made up of twelve Jedi Masters, one of which bore the title of Grand Master. The council sat in one of the towers of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, within the Jedi Council Chamber.
The Jedi Archives were the largest source of information in the galaxy, they were found within the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and were overseen by Jocasta Nu, the Chief Librarian. The Archives contained historical records dating back thousands of years, maps of the entire galaxy, scientific, mathematical and astronomical journals, engineering and technology documents as well as Jedi records on the Sith.

The "One Master and One Apprentice" rule is the principle upon which the Order of the Sith Lords was founded. The Rule of Two was created by Darth Bane, a Dark Lord and former member of the Brotherhood of Darkness, who saw that the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness dynasty had weakened themselves and were ultimately eradicated by the Jedi Order.
